There’s a certain magic to the jangly, guitar-driven indie rock that defined the early 2010s, a time when fuzzy basslines, infectious hooks, and basement-party energy ruled the airwaves. It’s a sound that’s hard to replicate without sounding overly nostalgic, but Vancouver’s own Uncle Strut seems to have cracked the code.

With their brand-new spring 2026 single, “Call My Name,” this four-piece outfit proves that rock and roll doesn’t just survive in this city, it struts.

Finding a Home in the Local Scene

If you haven’t caught them live yet, Uncle Strut is built on unapologetic fun. Comprised of Tyson McNamara (vocals/guitar), Simon Tejani (bass), Quincy Flowers (drums), and newest recruit Jasper Matthias (lead guitar), the band leans heavily into funk, garage, and grunge, tied together with a deeply infectious indie-pop sensibility.

They made massive waves locally with their 2025 debut LP, Home At Last, which bypassed the modern “playlist-single” trend in favor of a cohesive, dynamic, full-length album experience. Now, “Call My Name” continues that momentum with shimmering, upbeat production that immediately brings to mind the golden era of 2010s indie rock—when bands weren’t afraid to be loud, raw, and undeniably catchy.

Catch Them Live

They are hitting the road hard this spring, but locals can catch their energy right here in town:

If “Call My Name” is any indication of where Uncle Strut is heading next, the local scene is in very good hands. Grab a ticket, grow out your moustache, and go support live, independent Vancouver music.
